2026 regular federal tax scenario

Enter taxable ordinary income after deductions, excluding the capital results below. Enter your net short-term and long-term capital results across all investments, including applicable carryovers. Negative values represent losses.

Leave the remainder at 0 if deductions are already fully used by ordinary income. If deductions exceed ordinary income, enter ordinary taxable income as 0 and only the unused excess here. Do not enter the full deduction again. For example, $6,100 of ordinary income with an eligible $16,100 deduction leaves $10,000 unused. A positive remainder and positive ordinary taxable income cannot both apply.

This is a regular federal income-tax scenario for ordinary capital assets. It excludes state/local tax, NIIT, AMT, credits, qualified dividends, collectibles, business income, withholding and special loss rules. It is not your total tax bill or an IRS filing.

2026 rates and standard deductions: IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-32. Allocation method: IRS Form 1040 Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet (latest published 2025 instructions; 2026 thresholds above). Netting: IRS Topic 409. Reviewed October 1, 2026.
